While the US Supreme Court has now made sports betting legal in the Unite States, Kentucky and Indiana residents were not able to bet on the NFL this season from any statewide establishment. For now, a few dozen of internationally licensed sportsbooks will accept wagers on this year's World Cup.

WILL THESE STATES WELCOME SPORTS BETTING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

Indiana - Lawmakers had already established a summer study committee to explore possible legislation to make this a reality in the Hoosier state.

State Rep. Alan Morrison, R-Terre Haute, has introduced bills the past few years, but they haven't advanced far enough for a vote. Morrison said he's "very pleased and excited about the decision" and that he thinks legalizing sports gambling in Indiana has a "fairly good" chance of passing next year. But even in a best-case scenario, sports fans in the state would probably not be able to wager until September 2019, Casino Association of Indiana president Matt Bell said.

Kentucky - Rep. Jason Nemes of Louisville promised to draft a bill after the Supreme Court ruling but any introduction won’t be until January.

“Hopefully Kentucky is smart enough to seize the day and get it done,” he said.

Needless-to-say, gamblers from these states will need to rely on international websites to place all their NFL bets.
